Britten Incipit Recording Project

The Britten Thematic Catalogue, which is set to be published exclusively online, will not only include notated incipits, a notable element of any thematic catalogue, but also intends to include a corresponding audio example for each work. As the catalogue will detail both published and unpublished works, we are currently looking for musicians willing to record incipits for works with no existent commercial recording. To this end we are pleased to announce the Britten Incipit Recording Project, an initiative that will enable musicians worldwide to submit their own recordings of extracts from unpublished Britten works.

At this time we are currently accepting submissions for recordings of incipits from some of Britten's childhood works. In order to submit a recording of an incipit to the project, please start by browsing the required list of works. When you have identified a work or number of works you would like to record please print the desired incipit(s) and then once recorded submit the resultant audio file(s) to the project via the link provided on each work record. We will then contact you if your submission is successful. Credits for each recording will be included alongside the audio extract in the final published edition of the resource, due for release in 2013.

Recording submissions will be assessed by project staff to ensure they are:

Audio file formats: WAV, FLAC, OGG, MP3

Thank you in advance for your submission.

If you have any questions about submitting an incipit recording to the Britten Thematic Catalogue or if you are an instrumentalist interested in recording other works for performing forces not yet listed please contact the project.
